Although a demon smiles in the dark

You will deny the existence of it,

Laughing as you may into the night!

 

Knowing from where you hubris springs and

The triviality of its origin, I keep silent

Since you defy every criticism towards it.

 

If the question who rules or who governs is

Reduced to the Voltaire’s assertion that

The first king must have been a soldier

Going back to the past is not always futile

As the natives’ headman around the Amazon

Barely retains his status, managing to subsist

With scarce food and providing proper rations

To the so-called underlings.

 

Obeying the other people is the

Behavior of conceding the dignity

For the autonomy is fearsome,

And then there await miserable times

While those who smile at night seek his

Happiness all the way to the end of world.
